Trump to Host Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief at the White House Amid Strengthened Ties

United States President Trump is scheduled to meet Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the White House this Thursday. The meeting follows weeks after the two nations finalized a major trade deal.

Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is also expected to attend. Leaders from both countries are set to discuss a wide range of regional and global issues. The meeting comes a day after PM Sharif held an informal discussion with Trump.

This visit has drawn global attention. Pakistan remains a key ally of the United States, while tensions between Washington and New Delhi have escalated in recent months.

Relations between the US and Pakistan have notably improved under Trump. After years of US support leaning towards India, Washington has strengthened ties with Pakistan as a strategic partner in South Asia. Meanwhile, US-India relations have faced friction over issues like visa restrictions, high tariffs, and Trump’s claims of brokering an India-Pakistan ceasefire in May.

Earlier this year, Pakistan and the US signed a trade deal that included a 19% tariff. In contrast, Trump has not finalized a similar agreement with India. Analysts suggest that India is adjusting its relationship with China as a strategic hedge amid rising tensions with Washington.

In a historic move, Trump also hosted Pakistan’s Army chief, Field Marshal Munir, at the White House. This marked the first time a US president welcomed Pakistan’s top military official without senior civilian leaders present.

Pakistan has publicly supported Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing his role in reducing India-Pakistan tensions. At the same time, Islamabad has condemned the military actions of Israel, a key US ally, in Gaza, Qatar, and Iran.

The upcoming White House meeting is expected to further strengthen US-Pakistan relations and provide a platform for both nations to address ongoing regional challenges.
