The Pakistani government has explained the Two-Step Registration process for its new petrol relief scheme.

The programme offers a discount of Rs100 per litre to eligible citizens. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the targeted relief scheme on Sunday.

The initiative covers motorcyclists, rickshaw and Qingqi drivers. Owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc can also qualify.

Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima explained the registration process. She said the process has been designed to remain simple for eligible citizens.

The Two-Step Registration requires applicants to use a SIM registered in their own name. They must first send their CNIC number to 9771.

Applicants must then provide their vehicle registration details. This includes the vehicle registration number, province or city and registration date.

All submitted information must match official vehicle registration records. Any mismatch or missing information can delay the registration process.

Applicants will receive a message if their information needs correction. They can then fix the details and complete the registration.

The Two-Step Registration only needs to be completed once. Successful applicants will not need to register again.

After registration, beneficiaries can request a fuel subsidy token when needed. They simply need to send “TOK” to 9771.

The government has also warned citizens about protecting personal information. Shaza Fatima advised applicants not to share CNIC details with unauthorized individuals.

People should avoid anyone claiming they can register them for the scheme. The minister said applicants would not need to provide additional information.

The government will also not charge any registration fee. Beneficiaries should therefore be cautious about requests for money.

Officials will continue monitoring the registration system. They will also work to resolve technical problems and errors during implementation.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the scheme targets people affected by higher fuel prices. He said the government wanted to provide support without unnecessary complications.

Tarar said a transparent mechanism had been established for the programme. He added that the prime minister directed relevant departments to facilitate eligible citizens.

Officials involved in the programme will remain available to address complaints. They will also help beneficiaries facing problems with registration or subsidy access.

Petroleum Minister Malik said rising petrol prices can quickly affect household budgets. He highlighted the impact on people who depend on vehicles for income.

Many workers rely on motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles for their daily earnings. Higher fuel costs can therefore create additional financial pressure.

Malik said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wanted to protect vulnerable citizens from global oil shocks. The government has directed officials to arrange resources for the relief package.

He added that funds had previously been arranged for fuel subsidy programmes. The government has again ordered officials to mobilize resources for the latest initiative.

An earlier targeted fuel subsidy programme remained operational until June 30. Authorities have continued exploring measures to protect vulnerable groups.

The Two-Step Registration system is intended to make access to the latest subsidy easier. Eligible citizens can complete registration through their mobile phones.

Applicants should ensure their information is accurate before submitting it. Correct details can help prevent delays in receiving the subsidy.
