UK Launches eVisa System for Pakistani Students and Workers - Check Here

Starting in July 2025, the United Kingdom will introduce a digital visa system for Pakistani students and workers, replacing traditional physical immigration documents with eVisas. This shift aims to streamline the application process and enhance security.

According to an official statement from the UK Home Office, most students and workers applying for UK visas will now receive a digital immigration status known as an eVisa. This electronic record will be accessible through an online UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.

British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, hailed the change as a significant step towards simplifying the visa process. She emphasized that eVisas will make it easier for applicants to prove their identity and visa status. Importantly, applicants will no longer need to hand over their passports during the process, saving both time and effort.

This move is part of the UK government’s broader plan to modernize its immigration system. eVisas have already been used by millions of travelers in trial phases, and now they will be available to more applicants. The shift to digital documentation also aims to reduce the risk of document loss and minimize administrative work.

Visa Categories for eVisa Implementation

The new eVisa system will initially cover several visa categories, including:

  • Student visa (for study periods up to 11 months)
  • Global Business Mobility routes (e.g., Senior Specialist Worker, Graduate Trainee)
  • Global Talent
  • International Sportsperson
  • Skilled Worker route, including Health and Care workers
  • Temporary Work routes (e.g., Charity Worker, Religious Worker)
  • Youth Mobility Scheme

Under the digital system, applicants will link their UKVI account to their passport, allowing easy access to services and travel. Visa holders can use the ‘view and prove’ feature to share their immigration status with employers, educational institutions, or landlords in the UK.

What Does This Mean for Applicants?

While the update from physical visa vignettes (stickers) to eVisas does not change an applicant’s immigration status or conditions, not all applicants will receive an eVisa right away. Those applying under categories like dependants or general visitors will still receive a physical visa sticker. However, the UK government plans to extend eVisa access to all visa categories in the future.

This digital transformation is expected to benefit thousands of Pakistanis who apply for study or work opportunities in the UK. With this new system in place, applicants are encouraged to create a UKVI account to manage their immigration status and travel documentation online.
