US businesses in Pakistan are playing a crucial role in driving economic growth, job creation, and promoting women’s empowerment, as highlighted during a recent gathering of the American Business Forum (ABF) in Lahore. According to a press statement, over 80 US companies operating in Pakistan directly employ 120,000 workers and indirectly support more than a million others, contributing significantly to local economic opportunities and skill development.
At the event, a US official emphasized the commitment of these companies to initiatives beyond profit-making, including education, health, and workforce inclusion, particularly for women. Key collaborations, such as the US-Pakistan Women’s Council and partnerships with corporations like PepsiCo, were noted for boosting female participation in the workforce, especially in sectors like agriculture.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects by US firms were praised, with Coca-Cola’s “Recharge Pakistan” project, in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund, being a prime example. This initiative focuses on flood prevention and water management, addressing critical environmental challenges in the region. The ABF’s campaigns, such as breast cancer awareness initiatives, also underscore the community-focused approach of US companies.
On the economic front, recent improvements such as declining inflation were welcomed, but continued adherence to reforms under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme was emphasized as essential for sustained economic stability and growth in Pakistan.
