ISLAMABAD – Several US military aircraft have arrived in Pakistan’s capital, raising speculation about a possible visit by the United States vice president. Flight-tracking data shows that large American transport planes recently landed at Nur Khan Airbase near Islamabad.
According to reports, the US military aircraft include C-17 transport planes used by the US Air Force. These aircraft are capable of carrying heavy equipment and support supplies. Such planes are often used before important diplomatic visits.
Flight tracking information shows that three aircraft landed on April 19 at different times. The first aircraft arrived at around 8:30 am local time. A second aircraft landed at 11:03 am, while a third arrived at 2:40 pm. Another aircraft is believed to be heading toward Islamabad.
Officials have not confirmed the reason for the arrival of the US military aircraft. However, experts believe the aircraft may be transporting equipment for security and communication systems. These preparations are common before visits by senior US officials.
Additional aircraft linked to the operation were seen refueling at Ramstein Air Base in Germany and Morón Air Base in Spain. This suggests that a larger logistical operation is underway.
Reports about the arrival of the US military aircraft came shortly after sources said an advance US team had already reached Islamabad. Advance teams usually arrive early to coordinate security and logistical arrangements.
Authorities in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have increased security measures in response. The government has sealed the Red Zone and Extended Red Zone in Islamabad. These areas include important government buildings and foreign embassies.
Islamabad police said the zones will remain closed to traffic until further notice. Citizens have been advised to use alternative routes and cooperate with traffic officials.
The district administrations in both cities also announced a temporary suspension of public and goods transport. Islamabad’s deputy commissioner confirmed that heavy transport and public transport services were halted until further orders.
A similar announcement was made in Rawalpindi, where private and public transport operations were also suspended. Officials said more updates would be shared later.
Security forces have been placed on high alert across Rawalpindi. More than 10,000 police officers have been deployed in the city. Over 600 security checkpoints have also been established to monitor entry and exit points.
Elite Commandos, snipers, and rapid response teams are conducting patrols in sensitive areas. Authorities are also using Safe City surveillance systems and CCTV cameras for continuous monitoring.
The heightened security measures come as Pakistan prepares to host another round of discussions between the United States and Iran. These talks follow earlier negotiations held in Islamabad after a ceasefire was facilitated by Pakistan.
