A woman from the United States visited Adiala Jail on Tuesday to meet PTI founder Imran Khan. The visitor, Dr. Sundas Ali, told reporters that she regularly brings books for Khan whenever she travels to Pakistan.
Speaking to the media outside the prison, Dr. Ali said that Imran Khan spends much of his time in solitary confinement reading books. She added that the books she delivered during her recent visit were specially brought from the United States for the former prime minister.
Dr. Ali stressed the importance of reading and noted that Khan uses the books to continue his studies and reflection while behind bars. She expressed her concern over his confinement, calling it a challenging time for a leader of his stature.
Drawing a comparison between Pakistan and the United States, Dr. Ali highlighted the strength of democracy in America. She pointed out that while Donald Trump has many critics, he still holds political influence and power. She said this was an example of how leaders in democratic systems are allowed space, even when they face opposition.
Imran Khan has been held in Adiala Jail following multiple cases against him. Supporters and political allies have often raised concerns about his treatment and the conditions of his confinement. The books provided by Dr. Ali are seen as a way to support him during his incarceration.
According to prison sources, Khan spends significant time reading and writing while awaiting further hearings in his ongoing cases. His supporters argue that despite the challenges, he continues to inspire his followers and remains a central figure in Pakistanβs politics.
The visit to Adiala Jail highlights the continued international attention on Imran Khanβs imprisonment, as well as the symbolic support shown by overseas Pakistanis like Dr. Sundas Ali.
