ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) has issued a warning about widespread rains and potential flooding starting from August 4. The forecast predicts heavy rainfall across various regions of the country, particularly in the northern and central areas.
According to the Met Office, the heavy rains could lead to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and urban centers. The department has urged citizens to remain cautious and take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone areas. The rains are expected to continue for several days, with the heaviest showers likely to occur in the evening and nighttime hours.
The Met Office warns that the combination of heavy rainfall and already saturated soil could lead to flash flooding in areas with poor drainage systems. It has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the downpours and to stay informed through local weather updates. The department also highlighted the risk of landslides in hilly regions due to the continuous rainfall.
The weather conditions are expected to impact various provinces, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The Met Office has asked the relevant authorities to remain on high alert and prepare for possible disruptions caused by the extreme weather. It also emphasized the importance of monitoring river levels, as the heavy rainfall could lead to water overflow and affect nearby settlements.
The warning issued by the Met Office also includes concerns about urban flooding, especially in cities with inadequate drainage systems. Residents in these areas are urged to take precautions such as clearing drains and securing vulnerable properties.
