WASA Urges Citizens to Stop Dumping Solid Waste in Drains

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has called on citizens to refrain from throwing solid waste, particularly into Nullah Leh.

WASA’s managing director stated that an operation had been launched against those who dump garbage in nullahs, following directives from the Rawalpindi Commissioner.

The Punjab government invests a significant amount of public funds each year to clean nullahs, and individuals who dispose of solid waste in them do not deserve leniency, according to the managing director.

Given the rainy season, citizens are urged to cooperate with WASA staff to keep the nullahs clean. They should deposit solid waste only at designated garbage points for proper removal.

As responsible citizens, if anyone observes others throwing garbage into nullahs, they should report it to the police at the emergency number 15. The managing director also noted that fines were being imposed on those violating district administration orders, and special teams were conducting raids to enforce penalties. Public participation is crucial, particularly in safeguarding low-lying areas of the city from flooding.
