KARACHI β A reckless water tanker driver claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy in Karachiβs Korangi area. The young victim, Ismail, was a Hafiz-e-Quran.
According to local reports, the incident occurred near Belcha Hotel in Zia Colony. The water tanker was delivering water when the driver, while turning into a street, failed to notice Ismail. The boy was tragically crushed under the vehicleβs wheels and died on the spot.
Rescue teams and police arrived shortly after the accident. Ismailβs body was shifted to the hospital for legal formalities. Korangi SHO Adeel Afzal confirmed the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Police launched a search and later arrested the suspect, identified as Abdul Rehman. Authorities seized the water tanker and brought it to the police station. The body was handed over to the grieving family after completing necessary legal procedures.
Relatives said Ismail was the eldest of two brothers and one sister. Originally from Punjab, he had memorized the Quran, and his sudden death left the family devastated.
The tragic news drew a large crowd of residents to the victimβs home. People offered condolences and expressed anger over the accident, demanding stricter regulations for drivers of heavy vehicles like water tankers.
Authorities have urged caution while operating large vehicles in residential areas. They stressed that trained drivers are essential to prevent such accidents in the future.
This incident highlights growing concerns over road safety in Karachi. Untrained drivers and poorly monitored commercial vehicles continue to pose risks, especially in densely populated neighborhoods.
Police have registered a case against the driver and initiated further investigation. The community hopes for swift justice for the young Hafiz-e-Quran who lost his life in a preventable accident.
