Westerly Wave to Bring Rain, Thunderstorms Across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a strong westerly weather system expected to enter southwestern Balochistan on April 1, bringing widespread rain, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorms across several regions of the country.

According to the Met Office, the weather system will likely persist until April 4, affecting multiple provinces with varying intensity, including heavy rainfall and snowfall over mountainous areas during the period.

In Balochistan, rain-wind and thunderstorms are expected in Panjgur, Turbat, Kech, Awaran, and Makran coastal areas including Gwadar, Pasni, and Ormara. Other districts such as Khuzdar, Chaghi, Quetta, Zhob, Mastung, and Chaman are also likely to receive rainfall from the evening of April 1 through April 4, with chances of isolated heavy falls and hailstorms.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will experience rain and thunderstorms accompanied by snowfall over mountainous regions including Chitral, Swat, Kalam, Dir, and Kohistan. Urban districts such as Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, and Dera Ismail Khan are also expected to receive rainfall from the night of April 1 to April 4, while isolated heavy downpours and hailstorms may occur.

In Punjab and Islamabad, rain-wind thunderstorms are predicted in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, and surrounding districts during the same period. Authorities have warned that heavy rainfall is particularly likely in Dera Ghazi Khan and nearby areas.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are expected to receive rain and snowfall over mountains, including areas such as Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Neelum Valley, and Muzaffarabad. Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms are also forecast in parts of Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Sindh is expected to witness rain and thunderstorms between April 2 and April 4, affecting Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Tharparkar, and nearby districts, with occasional gaps in rainfall activity.

Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious during the forecast period, warning of possible urban flooding, strong winds, and travel disruptions in affected regions. Residents, especially in vulnerable areas, are encouraged to follow official weather advisories and take precautionary measures.
