ISLAMABAD: The widow of SP Adeel Akbar, who reportedly died last month, has been granted special government support. The benefits include an official residence at the Police Lines Headquarters and coverage of household utilities, such as electricity, gas, and telephone bills.
Additionally, the widow will receive a double-cabin government vehicle and 1,000 liters of petrol each month. The support package also includes three gunmen, two drivers, a cook, a gardener, and a sweeper. These benefits are expected to continue until the retired age of the late officer.
SP Adeel Akbar reportedly died on October 23, 2025, on Shahrah-e-Dastoor. While initial reports suggested suicide, a three-member government investigation committee has not confirmed the exact cause of his death. The inquiry reviewed the post-mortem report, witness statements, and other evidence before issuing its findings.
The committee confirmed that SP Adeel Akbar suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the face. Investigators recorded statements from his wireless operator, driver, and other personnel who were in contact with him shortly before the incident. A psychologist consulted during the investigation noted that SP Akbar had previously sought professional help for mental health concerns on two occasions.
Despite these findings, authorities have not reached a definitive conclusion regarding the circumstances of SP Adeel Akbar’s death. The case remains under scrutiny, and the investigation continues to examine all relevant evidence.
The government’s announcement of benefits aims to ensure the financial security and official support for SP Adeel Akbar’s surviving spouse. Officials have emphasized that these measures reflect the state’s commitment to supporting families of senior officers during difficult times.
