A youth conference titled “Youth as Catalysts of Change: Pakistan’s Population Management Challenges” was held at Kinnaird College for Women. The event was organized under the chief minister’s Population Management and Family Planning Programme.
The conference aimed to raise awareness among students about rapid population growth and the importance of population management. Organizers stressed how effective strategies and family planning are essential for sustainable development in Pakistan.
Principal Dr Iram Anjum and Vice Principal Dr Kulsoom Akhtar attended as chief guests. They praised the initiative and highlighted that informed and empowered youth could play a key role in addressing population-related challenges.
Representatives from the Directorate General, Population Welfare, Punjab, including Deputy Director Muhammad Afzal Chaudhry, Assistant Director Salmanur Rasheed, and Ms Sania Mirza, briefed students on the adverse effects of unchecked population growth. They emphasized that proper population management ensures healthier families, better maternal and child health, and long-term socio-economic stability.
Provincial representatives of The Challenge Initiative, including Khubaib Kiyani and Mr Khalid, encouraged students to actively participate in raising awareness. They stressed that youth engagement is vital for spreading knowledge, making informed choices, and supporting responsible community behavior.
The event included a one-act theatre performance demonstrating community-level issues related to population growth and family planning. The interactive session engaged students effectively, showing that creative communication can enhance public understanding of population management.
The conference concluded with a commitment to empower youth with knowledge, promote responsible decisions, and strengthen collaborative efforts. Organizers highlighted that active participation by students is key to achieving balanced population growth and sustainable national progress.
Through education, awareness campaigns, and youth involvement, Pakistan aims to address its population challenges while supporting socio-economic development.
