As per Google’s report, Pakistani app developers have made significant progress in the global rankings, reaching the 16th position in 2023, a notable improvement from their previous position at 27th in 2018. The apps created in Pakistan garnered an impressive four billion downloads worldwide last year, showing a remarkable growth rate of 30% between 2018 and 2022.
During the first half of the current fiscal year, Pakistan’s IT exports experienced a 2% increase, totaling $1.3 billion. This sector accounted for 38% of the country’s total service exports, according to research conducted by Arif Habib, a prominent Pakistani investment banking and securities firm.
In 2022, Google reported that 65 apps developed by 24 Pakistani developers secured top 10 positions in both gaming and apps categories on the Play Store and App Store.

To support the local app industry and tap into digital opportunities in Pakistan, Google organized the largest in-person apps and games event in Lahore, gathering more than 500 developers and industry leaders.
To further bolster the Pakistani developers’ ecosystem, Google has plans to expand its support for the local apps industry. They will host events like Think Apps, where global experts will share insights and trends with local developers. This initiative follows the successful introduction of similar events – Think Games and Gaming Growth Lab – which took place in Pakistan for the first time last year. During those events, Google collaborated with over 1,600 developers and promoted 50 early-stage gaming studios for global competition.
