The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has issued an arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, in connection with a case related to the November 26 protest. The case was registered at the Sadiqabad police station under anti-terrorism laws.
During Wednesdayโs hearing, the court rejected Aleema Khanโs plea for a one-day exemption from personal appearance and directed that she be indicted on October 11. The judge made it clear that her personal attendance at the next hearing is mandatory.
Prosecution raises objections
Prosecutor Zaheer Shah informed the court that the powers of attorney for Aleema Khanโs lawyers, Muhammad Faisal Malik and Hasnain Sumbal, were missing from the official case record. He argued that without valid documentation, the legal representation could not be recognized, and therefore, the counsels could not formally appear on her behalf.
The court accepted the prosecutionโs objection and emphasized the importance of proper legal authorization in ongoing proceedings. It then fixed October 11 as the date for indictment, ordering Aleema Khan to appear before the ATC in person for further hearing.
The case stems from protests held on November 26, during which several PTI leaders and supporters were charged under sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Authorities allege that the demonstrations led to disruptions and violations of law and order in the area.
This latest development adds to the series of legal challenges faced by several senior PTI figures following the partyโs political activities last year. The ATCโs decision to issue an arrest warrant signals the courtโs intent to move forward with the case and ensure compliance with legal procedures.
