LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has strongly condemned the recent egg attack on Aleema Khan during her public appearance in Rawalpindi. Calling the incident unfortunate and inappropriate, she said such acts should never be encouraged in politics.
Addressing the media, Azma Bukhari remarked that those who once celebrated similar acts against others are now facing the same consequences. She described this as a harsh form of poetic justice. She further clarified that no FIR application has been received so far regarding the egg attack.
Shifting focus to development issues, Bukhari criticized the misuse of funds in Gujrat. She said that despite receiving billions in funding, the city still lacks a proper sewerage system. She highlighted that one prominent political figure from Gujrat had served as Deputy Prime Minister, Chief Minister, and Speaker, yet basic infrastructure needs remained unmet.
“They kept saying Gujrat is ours, but where did the billions go?” Azma Bukhari questioned.
She further criticized political opponents for issuing irrelevant statements from abroad instead of focusing on flood relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Announcing a major initiative, Bukhari said the Punjab government under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will build a modern sewerage system in Gujrat at an estimated cost of Rs16 billion.
Meanwhile, details of the Rawalpindi incident show that Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, was attacked outside Adiala Jail after meeting her brother. Two unidentified women hurled an egg at her during a press interaction. Police intervened quickly and detained the women involved.
The video of the incident went viral, sparking debate across social and political circles.
