A tense scene unfolded outside Adiala Jail on Friday when an egg was thrown at Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, while she addressed the media. The incident occurred after a hearing in the Toshakhana II case.
Aleema Khan was speaking to reporters in the Dahgal area when the egg struck her, creating panic. Witnesses said PTI supporters quickly reacted, leading to a chaotic situation.
In the ensuing commotion, PTI workers allegedly assaulted two young women suspected of carrying out the egg attack. The workers also damaged the car belonging to the women, smashing its windows. Security officials arrived shortly after to manage the scene.
Rawalpindi police intervened and took the two women into custody. Authorities shifted them to Adiala Chowki for further questioning. Police claimed that both women involved were PTI workers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who had come to Adiala Jail for a protest related to provincial employees.
According to the police, the confrontation escalated after Aleema Khan did not respond to the women’s questions. It remains unclear whether the women acted intentionally against Aleema Khan, and investigations are ongoing.
Speaking about the incident, Aleema Khan remained calm, stating, “I was already aware that something like this could happen.” She thanked security officials for intervening and emphasized the need for caution during public appearances.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan condemned the attack, calling it “extremely despicable and inappropriate.” He expressed concern over the hostile environment surrounding PTI leaders and demanded that authorities ensure foolproof security for the family of Imran Khan.
Barrister Gohar added that immediate action should be taken against those responsible. He warned that such incidents were attempts to create chaos and undermine the party’s leadership.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions around PTI leaders and the need for careful management of protests and public interactions.
