Govt-Mills Agreement Restores Flour Supply in Punjab

Flour supply in Punjab has resumed after the provincial government reached a govt-mills agreement with flour mill owners.

The deal is expected to stabilize prices and ensure a steady supply of flour for households across the province. According to officials, 800 flour mills in Punjab will reopen today, providing 10kg and 20kg bags at official rates.

The govt-mills agreement includes a commitment by the government to provide 100,000 tons of wheat each month to support mill operations. At the same time, multinational firms have pledged to supply 2.5 million sacks of wheat at Rs 3,000 per maund. Representatives from these companies are meeting the Director General of Food today to finalize distribution and supply details.

Steps to control shortages

Officials from the Flour Mills Association confirmed that the agreement will ease recent shortages that created difficulties for consumers. They assured that mills will comply with the set terms to maintain smooth distribution across Punjab.

Special Assistant for Price Control, Salma Butt, praised the cooperation between the government and mill owners. She said recommendations regarding wheat and flour supply management are under review.

Butt also assured the public that the new system will help stabilize markets and protect consumers from rising costs. β€œThe government is committed to ensuring that flour remains available at affordable rates,” she said.

Ensuring market stability

Authorities stressed that the govt-mills agreement is not just a short-term measure but part of a larger plan to stabilize Punjab’s food supply. They said transparency in wheat distribution and close monitoring of market prices will remain priorities in the coming weeks.

The move has brought relief to families who were struggling with shortages and rising flour prices, restoring confidence in the government’s response to the crisis.
