Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was hosted at a dinner reception by Thailand’s former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The event was also attended by Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Thailand’s youngest female prime minister. Both warmly welcomed the chief minister and praised her leadership.
During the meeting, Thaksin extended goodwill for Pakistan Muslim League (N) President and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He, along with his daughter, lauded Maryam Nawaz for her vision and development initiatives in Punjab.
“Your and your father’s struggle for the people is inspiring,” Thaksin remarked, appreciating her focus on welfare and progress.
In her response, Maryam Nawaz acknowledged the Shinawatra family’s contributions to Thailand’s growth, particularly in reforms and welfare programs. She highlighted that Pakistan and Thailand share a relationship based on respect and economic cooperation.
The Punjab chief minister emphasized opportunities for collaboration in textiles, agriculture, tourism, and technology. She invited Thailand’s business community to explore Punjab’s investment incentives and regional market access.
“Cultural diplomacy, education, and tourism can bring our people closer,” she noted, while praising Thailand’s institutional reforms as an example for Punjab.
Maryam also underscored the importance of equipping youth with modern skills to build a digital nation. She shared that Punjab is working to empower young people with training and opportunities in line with future demands.
The meeting ended on a positive note as she thanked Thaksin and Paetongtarn Shinawatra for their hospitality. She also extended an invitation to visit Punjab and explore avenues of cooperation.
This engagement reflects the strengthening of ties between Pakistan and Thailand, with both sides focusing on trade, education, and cultural exchange.
