Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to prepare a full rehabilitation program for flood victims across the province.
Chairing a marathon session in Lahore, she instructed the Urban Unit, Board of Revenue, and other departments to finalize a relief package without delay. She emphasized that financial assistance for the affected families must be increased to meet urgent needs.
Maryam Nawaz ordered that a special program for flood-hit farmers be developed immediately. To ensure transparency, she directed the completion of a digital survey that records data accurately and fairly. For this purpose, she formed a high-level committee that will supervise the process.
Highlighting the destruction of homes, the chief minister instructed that families unable to return home should be housed in marquees. She ordered separate arrangements for men and women, along with access to clean drinking water, food, and basic facilities. She stressed that relocating displaced families before winter is a top priority.
Maryam Nawaz also announced that encroachments along waterways would be removed. She declared rivers, streams, and canals as red zones for construction to avoid future disasters. She further instructed that flood victims be included in the βApni Chhat, Apna Gharβ housing program.
Reaffirming her commitment, the chief minister said she would not rest until every displaced family is settled. She noted that the flood-hit people have high expectations and that it is her duty to meet them.
Maryam Nawaz also stressed the need for a comprehensive master plan to deal with natural disasters. She called for both short-term and long-term strategies to minimize flood damage and protect communities in the future.
