Shahram Khan Tarakai, an MNA-elect who had been in hiding for over nine months, received a warm welcome upon reaching the Swabi Interchange of the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway. Shahram, the health minister in the last PTI government, contested the NA-20 seat as an independent candidate backed by PTI and defeated his opponents with a significant margin.
He went into hiding after incidents in May 2023 and was granted protective bail by the Peshawar High Court until February 19. In his address to party workers, Shahram emphasized that false cases were registered against PTI leaders, and attempts to force him to shun allegiance to Imran Khan failed. He expressed gratitude for the people’s trust in PTI-backed candidates during the elections.
