Pakistan Navy, in collaboration with China, has discovered vast gas reserves deep beneath the Arabian Sea. The findings come from a joint survey conducted under the vision of the Chief of Naval Staff, a senior former naval officer revealed on Monday.
Speaking on Pakistan Navy Day, observed on September 8, Rear Admiral (retd) Fawad Amin Baig confirmed that the survey verified the presence of vast gas deposits on the country’s seabed. He emphasized that these resources could significantly boost Pakistan’s economic outlook if developed responsibly.
“The country’s waters are not only rich in minerals but also home to a treasure trove of marine resources,” Baig said, highlighting the Pakistan Navy’s central role in the exploration process. He added that tapping these reserves could create long-term benefits for national energy security and economic growth.
Baig stressed the importance of attracting investors to fully exploit the newly identified reserves. With sufficient funding and modern technology, he said, Pakistan could harness these resources to strengthen its energy sector and support industrial development.
However, he also warned about potential challenges. “Whenever Pakistan moves towards progress, hostile tactics often discourage investors,” he noted, referring to geopolitical and economic pressures that could impact investment.
Despite these challenges, Baig expressed optimism about Pakistan’s future. He highlighted the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the combined efforts of military and political leadership. According to him, these initiatives aim to implement a new defence and economic strategy, ensuring national stability and sustainable growth.
The discovery of vast gas reserves marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s energy exploration efforts. Experts say these findings could reduce dependence on imported fuel and help meet the country’s growing energy needs.
