PM Shehbaz Sharif on Monday highlighted Pakistan’s firm commitment to regional peace, stability, and cooperation. Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, he warned that extremism and terrorism continue to threaten security in the region.
The prime minister stressed that Pakistan believes in dialogue and diplomacy to resolve disputes. He said Pakistan seeks normal and stable relations with all neighbours and remains committed to multilateral cooperation.
“Nothing is more important for any country than sovereignty and territorial integrity,” PM Shehbaz Sharif stated. He emphasized that Pakistan respects the sovereignty of SCO members and neighbouring states while upholding international and bilateral agreements.
While highlighting China’s achievements, the premier praised President Xi Jinping’s “wise and visionary leadership.” He said China’s growing influence is evident not only within the SCO but also through major global initiatives. He also termed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) the “best project” between the two nations.
Reiterating Pakistan’s stance, PM Shehbaz Sharif said the country fully adheres to the United Nations and SCO charters and will continue to follow them.
On the Middle East crisis, he strongly condemned Israel’s aggression against Iran and the ongoing violence in Gaza. He called it an “unjustified” assault and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the two-state solution as approved by the United Nations.
The prime minister also addressed Pakistan’s internal security challenges. He revealed evidence of foreign involvement in terrorist incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Referring to the Jaffar Express attack, he warned perpetrators and their facilitators of strict punishment.
PM Shehbaz Sharif reminded the world of Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He said the country has lost more than 90,000 lives, including civilians, professionals, and security officers, for the cause of global peace.
