PML-N Dismisses Reports of Nawaz Sharif Running for President

PML-N Denies Nawaz Sharif Presidency Speculations

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has denied rumours suggesting that Nawaz Sharif is planning to become the next president.

PML-N Senator Irfan-ul-Haque Siddiqui addressed the issue during a TV appearance on Wednesday night. He firmly rejected the speculation as “baseless” and “table stories.”

He said Nawaz Sharif had shown no interest in the presidency. “There has been no such discussion within the party,” Siddiqui added.

The rumours started circulating after reports that President Asif Ali Zardari might resign. However, those reports were also dismissed by both the government and opposition parties.

Siddiqui emphasized that Nawaz Sharif is not attempting to change the political system to assume the presidency.

He said similar stories had surfaced before, such as claims that Zardari would never become president. But such outcomes often depend on timing and political situations.

Speaking earlier on another talk show, Siddiqui also denied reports of President Zardari resigning.

He criticized media outlets for spreading what he called “fabricated news,” including claims about Imran Khan’s sons arriving in Pakistan and Nawaz Sharif being sent to Adiala Jail.

“These are not real reports. They are just table stories with no substance,” he said.

He praised Zardari for understanding his constitutional duties and said the PPP and PML-N coalition was stable. “We have no reason to bring down this system,” he stated.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also dismissed the rumours surrounding Zardari’s resignation. He called it a “malicious campaign” targeting top state officials.

Naqvi said such propaganda was harmful to political stability and national unity. He added that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Asim Munir, had no political ambitions.

He confirmed that the army leadership had a strong relationship with President Zardari. He quoted Zardari as saying he knew who was behind the false claims.
