Sanam Javed, initially detained for alleged involvement in the May 9 incidents, was set to be released after the Lahore High Court ordered her discharge three days prior. The anti-terrorism court’s decision followed this directive. The release order was sent to Gujranwala Central Jail, where she was being held. To maintain order during her release, a heavy police presence was deployed outside the jail, and Sialkot Road was closed to traffic.
Three days earlier, a two-member bench of the Lahore High Court, headed by Justice Asjad Javed Gharal, had acquitted Sanam Javed of the charges related to the May 9 case in Gujranwala. She was initially arrested in Lahore and faced multiple cases in various cities due to the May 9, 2023 riots. Despite several bail grants from various courts, she was repeatedly re-arrested upon release from jail or court.
