ISLAMABAD โ Federal Information Minister Ataullah Tarar stated on Wednesday that any decision to impose a ban on PTI would be based on legal grounds, not political motives. Speaking on Samaa TVโs programme “Red Line with Talat Hussain,” Tarar described PTI as an unprincipled party.
Tarar accused PTI of supporting terrorism and said that attacks like those on May 9 were not carried out by Pakistanโs enemies. He added that the party adopted a political facade while its actions resembled those of terrorists.
The minister emphasized that the government had provided opportunities for dialogue with PTI, but it remains unclear when a final decision on the ban will be made. He noted that the Punjab Assembly had approved a resolution supporting the ban, clarifying that no political party or leader is above the law.
Highlighting the partyโs actions, Tarar said that PTI mocked soldiers serving in Siachen under harsh winter conditions. He also criticized PTI workers for fleeing from water cannons during a protest, which led to a lawmaker sustaining a leg fracture. He stressed that those facing suicide bombers deserved respect and that a legal case for a PTI ban was emerging.
Tarar mentioned that PTI founder Imran Khan is currently in jail over a ยฃ190 million corruption case. He lamented that the party failed to acknowledge government achievements, such as polio eradication and the activation of the CTD. Tarar added that PTI statements often contradicted legal principles and the government would continue to expose these violations.
He further criticized PTI for addressing Indian channels to issue statements and stated that the party no longer had the strength to act. Tarar noted poor attendance at the Peshawar rally and said people opposed PTIโs rhetoric against the armed forces and national defense.
