The Punjab government has officially launched the Green E-Taxi Scheme 2025, aiming to create jobs and promote eco-friendly transport. The initiative was announced under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, highlighting the provincial governmentβs focus on employment and environmental sustainability.
The Green E-Taxi Scheme will provide electric and hybrid taxis to unemployed youth on interest-free installments. In the first phase, 1,100 vehicles will be distributed, with 30 cars allocated specifically for women drivers. Officials stated that the scheme is designed not only to generate employment but also to help reduce pollution in major cities.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet certain conditions to qualify. They must be Pakistani citizens with Punjab domicile, aged between 21 and 45 years. A valid CNIC and driving license are mandatory. The scheme prioritizes low-income individuals, while those with criminal backgrounds or high-income status may be excluded.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit their CNIC, driving license, passport-sized photograph, proof of residence, and bank account details. Those applying for multiple vehicles may also need to provide an NTN or business credentials.
Application Process
The registration process is completely online. Applicants will register on the official portal by entering CNIC details, mobile number, and completing OTP verification. After selecting the vehicle type and city, required documents must be uploaded. Once approved, candidates will finalize banking procedures before receiving their taxis.
Payment Plan
The scheme offers affordable down payments and easy monthly installments. Full ownership rights will be granted upon completion of payments. Final payment details will be announced at the official launch event.
Electric vs. Hybrid Taxis
Electric taxis are ideal for urban commuting due to zero emissions and low costs but require charging facilities. Hybrid taxis, on the other hand, suit longer routes, offering reduced emissions without the need for external charging.
The Green E-Taxi Scheme is expected to play a key role in tackling unemployment while promoting cleaner transportation across Punjab.
