PTI Repeats 2018 Sweep in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The unofficial, preliminary results of the general elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) paint a picture of significant success for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), indicating a potential clean sweep in both the National Assembly and Provincial Assembly constituencies. This outcome mirrors the PTI’s previous victories in the region, reaffirming its dominance in K-P politics.

Key figures from rival parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Awami National Party (ANP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), and others, are reportedly facing defeat against PTI candidates. Even prominent politicians like Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and Anwar Saifullah are among those who may have lost their respective contests.

Meanwhile, PTI-backed candidates, including former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar, K-P Speaker Mushtaq Ghani, and former federal ministers Shaheryar Afridi, Ali Muhammad Khan, and Ali Amin Gandapur, are expected to secure victories.

Notably, some candidates supported by PTI, contesting as independents due to intra-party disputes over election symbols, are also poised for success, indicating the strength of PTI’s influence even beyond formal party affiliations.

The potential victories of candidates like Shandana Gulzar and Mian Umar Jamshed Kakakhel, who aim to reclaim or retain seats previously held by their parents, illustrate the continuity of political legacies within the PTI-backed camp.

Overall, these preliminary results suggest a continuation of PTI’s political dominance in K-P, with the party set to consolidate its power in both the National Assembly and Provincial Assembly.
