Punjab CM Mohsin Naqvi Poised to Become Next PCB Chairman

Mohsin Naqvi, the Interim Chief Minister of Punjab, is anticipated to be officially nominated for the position of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, subject to the approval of PCB Patron-in-Chief and caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.

Once the nomination is confirmed, Naqvi will take over from Zaka Ashraf as a member of the Board of Governors. Naqvi, who also owns a media channel, confirmed his appointment and expressed his commitment to addressing the challenges facing Pakistan cricket, emphasizing the need for reforms in the sport. This development follows Zaka Ashraf’s resignation from the role of chairman of the PCB Management Committee.

Zaka Ashraf, aged 72, announced his resignation during a committee meeting, citing challenges in working for the betterment of cricket under the existing circumstances. He had assumed the role of Chairman of the PCB Management Committee on July 6, succeeding Najam Sethi.

During Ashraf’s tenure, Pakistan participated in two major competitions, namely the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, with the team not reaching the final of the Asia Cup and failing to qualify for the semi-finals of the World Cup. The final decision on Naqvi’s nomination is contingent on the approval of Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.
