Questions arise on Mohammad Hafeez’s appointment as Director

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has found itself embroiled in controversy following the appointment of Mohammad Hafeez as the national team’s director without adhering to due process, sparking concerns about the legitimacy of the decision.

This move has drawn criticism as it allegedly bypassed directives from the Inter-Provincial Relations Committee, which stressed the importance of proper authorization for significant appointments within the board.

Hafeez’s appointment, made purportedly on the advice of Zaka Ashraf, has been flagged as illegal due to its lack of proper assessment procedures. In response, the PCB has taken an unprecedented step by issuing an advertisement for the same position Hafeez assumed, seemingly to rectify the perceived breach of regulations.

The advertisement, orchestrated by the PCB’s Human Resources department, is a formal requirement for appointments exceeding one lakh rupees in salary, as stipulated by PCB regulations. Prospective candidates interested in the team director’s role have been given until December 15th to submit their documents.

Of note is the absence of an interview or an initial advertisement for the position before Hafeez’s appointment, raising questions about the transparency and compliance with standard procedures within the PCB.

This development underscores the need for adherence to established protocols in the PCB’s decision-making process, prompting scrutiny over the circumstances surrounding Hafeez’s appointment and the subsequent corrective measures taken by the board.
