Rain Threatens PSL 9 Opening Matches

As the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 kicks off in Lahore, there is a potential spoiler in the forecast: rain. The meteorological department has indicated chances of showers in the upcoming days, which could affect the matches scheduled in Punjab’s capital city.

Moderate to heavy rain, accompanied by wind, thunderstorms, and even snowfall over the hills, is expected in areas including Murree, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, and Lahore from February 17th (night) to 21st. Additionally, isolated hailstorms may occur during this period.

Despite the weather forecast, spectators eagerly anticipate the opening ceremony and the first match scheduled for February 17. Continuing the tradition, a new PSL anthem for Season 9 was released, featuring Ali Zafar and Aima Baig.

The opening match of Season 9 is between the reigning champions, Lahore Qalandars, and the two-time winners, Islamabad United. Lahore Qalandars clinched victory in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons, marking them as the first team to secure consecutive wins in the event.

Lahore Qalandars’ fortunes took a turn for the better when fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi was appointed captain, leading the team to victory in the past two seasons.

On the other hand, Islamabad United emerged victorious in the inaugural PSL event held in 2016, which took place entirely in the United Arab Emirates. They also secured victory in the 2018 season. However, it has been six years since their last win, and they aim to reclaim the title in Season 9.
