The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Karachi today to sight the moon of Zil Hajj, the concluding month of the Islamic lunar year.

The meeting will be presided over by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, chairman of the moon viewing committee.

Simultaneously, zonal committees would convene in places such as Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar to observe the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon.

On the 29th day of each Islamic month, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets to evaluate whether or not the crescent moon has been sighted.

Eidul Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the two Eid holidays observed by Muslims around the world, honouring Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son for the benefit of Allah Almighty.

It is traditionally observed through the ritualistic slaughter of animals, with the meat being redistributed among family members and those in need.

After the Dhul Al-Hijjah crescent moon was spotted in the country on June 18, Saudi Arabia officially announced Eid Al-Adha 2023 dates. Arafat Day will be marked on Tuesday, June 27th, followed by Eid Al-Adha on Wednesday, June 28th, according to the official statement.

Muslims in the United Kingdom will observe Eid ul Azha on several dates. The Central London Mosque has declared Eid ul Azha for June 28, whereas Markazi Jamaat-e-Ahle Sunnat UK has declared it for June 29.
