Sarwat Gilani's 'Farar' to Premiere at Chicago South-Asian Film Festival

Sarwat Gilani is set to headline the upcoming web series titled “Farar,” which consists of six episodes and is scheduled to premiere at the 14th annual Chicago South-Asian Film Festival on September 23, 2023. The series is directed by Mehreen Jabbar, a New York-based Pakistani television and film director, and also stars Mariam Saleem and Maha Hasan.

The official poster for the series was recently unveiled, featuring Gilani along with her co-stars. “Farar” was created in collaboration with producers Umnia Iftikhar and Shailja Kejriwal, the chief creative officer of special projects at Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd.

While not much has been revealed about the storyline, a short synopsis indicates that the series will revolve around the friendship between the three main female characters and their journeys through life’s challenges. The series will explore the lives of widowed hairdresser Sabrina, aspiring actor Tanya dealing with body-image issues, and ambitious track and field runner Huma resisting societal pressures to marry. Their individual stories are expected to intertwine, touching on themes such as heartbreak, grief, love, sisterhood, empowerment, all set against the backdrop of Karachi, one of Pakistan’s largest cities.

Sarwat Gilani, who recently received acclaim for her role in “Joyland,” is once again part of a project that is likely to garner international attention and appreciation, particularly in India and Pakistan. Gilani shared her thoughts on the series, describing it as “an incredible journey of exploration and dedication” and emphasizing the emotional depth of the story.
