Babar Azam’s father sparks backlash over response to Kamran Akmal’s criticism

Azam Siddique, father of Pakistani cricket star Babar Azam, is under fire for his public response to Kamran Akmal’s remarks suggesting Babar should be limited to Test cricket.

Akmal, speaking on a podcast, supported the decision to drop Babar and Rizwan from the T20I squad and hinted they should soon be phased out of ODIs as well. He claimed their game suits longer formats, not limited-overs cricket.

Siddique hit back on Instagram with an old photo featuring Babar and Akmal, taking a dig at Akmal’s own performance under Babar’s leadership. He wrote, “Talking behind successful people’s backs is a compulsion for the failed,” and quoted a Turkish proverb questioning Akmal’s loyalty.

Akmal responded by criticizing Siddique’s involvement in cricket matters, saying, “Family members should not interfere.”

The online cricketing community is divided — with many fans questioning Siddique’s role in Babar’s career and urging restraint in family commentary.
