Rajeev Shukla, BCCI Vice President, addressed speculation that Pakistan might boycott the 2026 T20 World Cup—hosted by India—if India does not visit Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
At the Uttar Pradesh Premier League players’ auction, Shukla mentioned that the BCCI is waiting for Indian government approval to visit Pakistan.

He noted that while Pakistan can make statements about the 2026 World Cup, the BCCI’s participation in the Champions Trophy hinges on government consent.
A senior BCCI official acknowledged that Pakistan might retaliate if India does not travel for the Champions Trophy, potentially threatening to boycott the Asia Cup. The official clarified that the decision is beyond the BCCI’s control, as sending a team abroad requires government approval. Discussions about the Champions Trophy have yet to yield positive results.
The PCB insists on hosting the entire 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, despite rumors of neutral venues. The proposed locations are Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore, with all of India’s matches planned for Lahore. The PCB argues that India has no valid reason to avoid playing in Pakistan, as other teams have competed there before.
The Champions Trophy is set for February 19 to March 9, 2025, marking its return after an eight-year break, with Pakistan having won the last tournament in 2017 by defeating India.
