Mahedi Hasan Leads Bangladesh to Historic T20I Series Win Over Sri Lanka

In a remarkable performance, Mahedi Hasan and Tanzid Hasan Tamim guided Bangladesh to a historic T20I series victory over Sri Lanka. The series was sealed with a commanding eight-wicket win in the final match at R. Premadasa Stadium, marking Bangladesh’s first-ever T20I series win against Sri Lanka.

Mahedi Hasan was the standout bowler for Bangladesh, taking career-best figures of 4 for 11. On a sluggish pitch, Mahedi’s spin bowling dismantled Sri Lanka’s middle order after early wickets had already put the hosts on the back foot. His exceptional performance became the best bowling figures in T20Is in Colombo, breaking Harbhajan Singh’s record from the 2012 T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka, having lost early wickets, were struggling at 94 for 6 by the 15th over. Pathum Nissanka’s composed 46 off 39 balls briefly held the innings together, while Dasun Shanaka’s late surge of 35 not out from 25 balls helped lift the total to 132 for 7. However, it was never going to be enough against Bangladesh’s strong chase.

Despite a loss of Parvez Hossain Emon on the very first ball of the innings, Bangladesh made easy work of the 133-run target. Tanzid Hasan Tamim was in superb form, scoring an unbeaten 73 off just 47 balls, including six sixes. His power-hitting and timing played a crucial role in the victory. Litton Das also contributed with 32 runs before falling in the ninth over.

Tanzid and Towhid Hridoy then added an unbroken 59-run partnership, guiding Bangladesh to the target comfortably in 16.3 overs. Sri Lanka’s bowlers struggled to apply consistent pressure, as the Bangladeshi batsmen cruised to the win.

This victory marks a new chapter in Bangladesh’s cricketing history, with Mahedi Hasan’s brilliant bowling and Tanzid Hasan’s explosive batting leading the way.
