Mike Hesson to be the New Head Coach of Pakistan’s Cricket Team

Mike Hesson

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly chosen former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson as the new head coach of the national men’s cricket team. His appointment is expected to be finalized after the conclusion of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10, according to Express News.

Hesson, who is currently coaching Islamabad United in PSL 10, is considered the frontrunner for the role. The PCB had recently advertised the position, seeking candidates with Level 3 coaching certification and at least 10 years of coaching experience at the domestic or international level.

With a wealth of experience, Hesson previously served as the head coach of New Zealand’s national team and as Director of Cricket for the IPL’s Royal Challengers Bangalore. He played a pivotal role in Islamabad United’s success in PSL 9 during his debut season in the league.

The head coach position has been vacant since Gary Kirsten stepped down, with Aaqib Javed serving as interim coach. Javed’s contract expired in February 2025, and he has indicated he is not interested in renewing it.

While former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is also under consideration, Hesson is currently regarded as the PCB’s top choice.
