Mohammad Amir Reveals Why He Retired from International Cricket

Fast bowler Mohammad Amir has opened up about the reasons behind his retirement from international cricket, revealing that he felt sidelined and ignored by the Pakistan cricket setup after the T20 World Cup.

In a recent interview, Amir expressed his disappointment with how he was treated post-tournament. “After the T20 World Cup ended, no one even talked to me. No one told me if I was part of the future plans. A wise person understands the signs, if you’re not in the plans, then you have to think about yourself. That’s exactly what I did,” he shared.

Amir also revealed that he gave up a county contract to make himself available for the World Cup, which ended up being financially challenging for him. “I spent more money than I made. I travelled with my trainer, and all those expenses came out of my own pocket,” he said.

On former captain Babar Azam, Amir praised his talent but pointed out technical flaws, noting Babar’s struggle with timing and shot selection.

Amir also spoke about his aggressive on-field mindset, emphasizing the importance of mental toughness. “Cricket used to be fierce. Sir Vivian Richards is with us, ask him. Back then, it looked like bats might be thrown at any moment. Being mentally aggressive is part of the game’s beauty,” he said.

Reflecting on his current team, Quetta Gladiators, Amir stressed that judging players based on just a few games is unfair.
