In an exciting finish to the T20I series, Pakistan defeated the West Indies 2-1, securing another series victory over the hosts. The final match saw Pakistan post an impressive total of 189/4 in 20 overs, with significant contributions from Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub.
Farhan scored 74 off 53 balls, while Ayub added 66 from 49 balls. The Green Shirts put on a solid performance with some quick runs from Hassan Nawaz, who scored 15 off seven balls.
The West Indies responded with 176/6, but fell short by 13 runs. Alick Athanaze (60 off 40 balls) and Sherfane Rutherford (51 off 35 balls) played key roles in keeping the match competitive.
However, Pakistan’s bowlers held their ground. Sufyan Moqim finished with 1/20, Mohammad Nawaz claimed 1/33, and Haris Rauf took 1/34 in his four overs, helping Pakistan seal a 13-run win.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) celebrated the victory, announcing the series win on their social media platforms. “Pakistan achieves their seventh consecutive T20I series win over the West Indies,” the PCB tweeted after the match.
However, the victory was marred by an injury setback for Pakistan. Fakhar Zaman, the left-handed batter, was ruled out of both the remaining T20I and the upcoming ODI series due to a hamstring injury.
Zaman sustained the injury during the second T20I while chasing a ball in the outfield. Medical assessments revealed a mild strain, and he will now return to Pakistan for rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.
Fakhar Zaman, though struggling with his form in the series, remains an important player for Pakistan in limited-overs cricket. He had scored 28 and 20 runs in the first two T20Is but was unable to convert his starts into big innings.
Zaman had also been sidelined from this year’s Champions Trophy due to a previous injury. His absence will be a blow for Pakistan, given his ability to provide explosive starts in both ODIs and T20s.
Looking ahead, Pakistan will now face the West Indies in a three-match ODI series starting on August 8, with all games taking place in Trinidad. This series will be crucial for both teams as they prepare for upcoming international fixtures.
As Pakistan celebrates its T20I victory, all eyes will be on how they adjust without Zaman for the ODI series.
