Muhammad Nazir Junior, the former national cricketer and umpire, has passed away at the age of 78 after battling serious health complications. His son, Noman Nazir, confirmed his father’s death today. Nazir Junior was a respected figure in Pakistan cricket, having represented the country in 14 Test matches and 4 One Day Internationals. In addition to his playing career, he was also known for his umpiring, officiating in 15 One Day and 5 Test matches.
In his final days, Nazir Junior had been critically ill, suffering from a chest infection and ascites, and had been receiving treatment in a private hospital in Lahore. His son had appealed to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the government for support, as his father required ongoing medical care, highlighting the PCB’s past assistance to the family.

Nazir Junior, a former off-spin bowler, made his mark in cricket history by becoming the first spinner to take the most wickets in the first innings of his debut Test match. Throughout his career, he accumulated 37 wickets in international cricket. However, in recent years, he had been facing health issues resulting from a severe traffic accident five years ago, which left him with lasting injuries.
The cricket community has mourned the loss of this prominent figure, known for his contributions as both a player and umpire, and has expressed condolences to his family.
