Lifetime Ban for Former PCB Board Member Shakeel Sheikh

Shakeel Sheikh, a former member of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Board of Governors (BOG), has faced a lifetime ban from the PCB due to financial irregularities. This disciplinary action follows a comprehensive investigation committee report.

The notification issued highlighted agenda item No.6, informing everyone that the findings of the inquiry committee, led by Mr. Barkat Memon, Coordinator of Federal Affairs, would be discussed. The report was submitted to the Secretary of the Management Committee (MC) and subsequently reviewed by the Chairman.

Renowned journalist Mirza Iqbal Baig shared details of the discussion, revealing that each member of the group provided their perspectives. Seven members proposed deferring the report for further discussion in the next meeting, while two members advocated for immediate acceptance and implementation of the report. Notably, the Chairman of the Management Committee (MC) did not express a preference through voting.

Following a thorough discussion, members decided to apply Mr. Memon’s report to the Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad. A new vote, with 7 members in favor and 2 against (excluding the Chairman), ensured that the report would be discussed in the next Board of Governors meeting for potential implementation across all PCB regions. Another vote by the Members Committee (MC) resulted in 6 in favor and 4 against, leading to the approval of Mr. Memon’s recommendations specifically for the Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad. These approved suggestions will now be implemented.

In related developments, there are indications that Mohsin Naqvi, the current Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, is poised to be named the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This nomination awaits official approval from the top PCB leader and Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kaka. This announcement follows Zaka Ashraf’s resignation as the chairman of the PCB Management Committee during a committee meeting.
