Lionel Messi Equals Cristiano Ronaldo's International Record

Lionel Messi continues to etch his name alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in football history after scoring a hat-trick against Bolivia, tying Ronaldo’s record for the most international hat-tricks in men’s football with ten.

In the match, Messi opened the scoring in the 19th minute and added two more goals in the 84th and 86th minutes, bringing his career total to 846 goals. This hat-trick was notable as it came against the ninth different national team he has scored three goals against, joining Switzerland, Brazil, Guatemala, Panama, Ecuador, Haiti, Estonia, and Curacao on that list.

Cristiano Ronaldo has similarly scored three goals against teams like Northern Ireland, Sweden, Armenia, and others. While Messi has 112 international goals, Ronaldo leads with 133.

In addition to his goals, Messi also provided two assists in Argentina’s commanding 6-0 victory in the 2026 World Cup qualifier. Despite some setbacks in previous matches, including a draw against Venezuela and a loss to Colombia, Argentina remains at the top of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings with 22 points. They will next face Paraguay on November 14th.
