Liverpool are on the brink of finalizing the signing of striker Alexander Isak. The deal, if confirmed, would shatter British transfer records.
The Reds have reportedly agreed a fee of around £125 million with Newcastle United. Isak is expected to travel for his medical and sign a multi-year contract soon.
Liverpool’s offer exceeds Chelsea’s previous record £115 million transfer for Moisés Caicedo. The new fee could rise to £130 million once add-ons are factored in.
Isak’s arrival brings elite quality to Liverpool’s attack. He scored 23 league goals last season and played a key role in Newcastle’s return to the Champions League.
The transfer follows a turbulent summer saga. Isak had made his desire to leave clear, refusing to train with Newcastle and publicly expressing frustration over broken promises. Newcastle initially rejected offers, demanding a higher valuation and a suitable replacement before allowing him to leave.
However, Newcastle have acted to secure such a replacement. Their pursuit of Nick Woltemade for around £70 million appears to have softened their stance, paving the way for Isak’s move.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have shown patience and financial firepower. The club has already spent heavily this summer, bringing in players across different positions. Their commitment to Isak shows their intent to reinforce further.
If completed, Isak’s transfer would underline Liverpool’s ambition and set a clear signal to rivals. Their recruitment drive shows they are building a squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts this season.
