Manchester United Signs Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £65 Million

Manchester United have completed the signing of forward Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford on a contract running until 2030. The deal, which also includes an option to extend for an additional year, was confirmed by the club on Monday.

United paid £65 million ($88 million) to Brentford for the 25-year-old Cameroon international. An additional £6 million could be triggered through performance-based add-ons, according to a club source. Mbeumo’s transfer marks a major move for Manchester United as they strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

Bryan Mbeumo enjoyed a standout 2024-25 Premier League season, finishing with 20 goals for Brentford, helping the team secure a solid 10th-place finish. Only Mohamed Salah (29), Alexander Isak (23), and Erling Haaland (22) scored more goals than Mbeumo in the league. His impressive performance saw him become one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market.

Speaking about the move, Mbeumo expressed his excitement, saying, “As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams, the team whose shirt I wore growing up.” He further stated, “My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know I have the spirit of character to reach another level here, learning from manager Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.”

The versatile Mbeumo has played both on the right wing and as a centre-forward for Brentford, showcasing his adaptability and skill. He joined Brentford in 2019 from Ligue 2 side Troyes, making 242 appearances, scoring 70 goals, and providing 51 assists during his time at the club.

Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s director of football, praised Mbeumo’s consistency, saying, “Bryan’s goals and assists record in the Premier League is exceptional. His remarkable consistency has put him amongst the most productive players in England for the last three seasons.”

Manchester United’s pre-season tour in the U.S. will give Mbeumo the perfect opportunity to integrate with his new teammates. United will play three pre-season matches in the U.S., with games scheduled against West Ham United on July 26 in New Jersey, Bournemouth on July 30 in Chicago, and Everton on August 3 in Atlanta.

This signing marks a significant step in Manchester United’s preparations for the new season as they aim to build on their success with new additions to their squad.
