Pakistan Women Create History, Claim Maiden T20 Series Win Against New Zealand

Dunedin – The Pakistan women’s cricket team has scripted a historic triumph by defeating New Zealand in the T20 International series.

The Women in Green showcased their prowess, outshining the Kiwis by a convincing 10-run margin in the second game, thereby sealing the series with a 2-0 victory. This remarkable win comes after the visitors secured an earlier victory by seven wickets in the first match, marking their maiden T20 win against New Zealand.

Batting first in the second encounter, the Pakistani side set a target of 138 runs for the Kiwis, posting a total of 137-6. Stellar performances from Fatima Sana, Muneeba Ali, and Aliya Riaz stood out, restricting the hosts to 127-7 at the close of 20 overs.

Right-arm pacer Fatima Sana demonstrated her prowess once more, securing her second consecutive 3-wicket haul and spearheading the Asian side to a memorable victory.

This historic achievement by the Green Shirts marks Pakistan’s first T20I series triumph in five years and their inaugural T20I series win outside Asia and Ireland.

The Pakistani team commenced with determination, led by Muneeba Ali’s rapid 35 runs off 28 balls at the top of the order. However, the tide turned as Molly Penfold’s crucial catches dismissed Nida Dar and Bismah Maroof, leaving Pakistan at 86 for 4.

In a remarkable turn of events, Aliya Riaz took charge, hammering a 32 off 22 balls, laced with three boundaries and a six.

The Pakistani women’s team’s monumental achievement has not only secured their place in history but also signifies a significant milestone in their T20I journey, solidifying their status as a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.
