Former Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal has claimed that he assisted Babar Azam in improving his game against spinners, revealing that the former Pakistan captain once approached him for advice. Babar’s performance against spin has recently come under scrutiny due to a drop in his strike rate and average.
In a TV interview, Akmal recalled a time when Babar was struggling against spin bowlers and sought his help. Akmal suggested adjustments to Babar’s grip and focus while facing slow bowlers.

“I remember he was having trouble getting out around midwicket. I advised him to adjust his grip and keep his eyes on the ball until it was halfway to him,” Akmal said, recalling their conversation.
Babar’s performance against spin has declined, with his strike rate dropping to 60.3 in 2025 from 77.7 in 2023. Despite these challenges, Akmal expressed hope that Babar could regain his form.
Akmal, however, appeared visibly upset when asked about his current relationship with Babar, stating, “Everyone has their own life.”
