FIFA reported a massive demand for 2026 World Cup tickets during the opening 24 hours of the latest sales phase. Soccer fans from over 200 countries applied for seats at the first 48-team World Cup, which will take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
Despite the excitement, fan groups criticized the high ticket prices. Football Supporters Europe (FSE) urged FIFA to halt national team allocations, calling the prices โextortionate.โ FSE warned that ordinary fans could be shut out of the tournament. Ticket prices reportedly increased five-fold compared to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Early interest has focused on high-profile group-stage matches. The most requested fixture so far is Colombia versus Portugal in Miami on June 27. Other popular matches include Brazil v Morocco (New York/New Jersey, June 13), Mexico v South Korea (Guadalajara, June 18), Ecuador v Germany (New York/New Jersey, June 25), and Scotland v Brazil (Miami, June 24).
After the host countries, the top nations applying for tickets were Colombia, England, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Scotland, Germany, Australia, France, and Panama. FIFA noted that strong interest from South and Central American fans reflects the tournamentโs wide appeal in the Americas. Scotlandโs high demand reflects excitement over their first World Cup appearance in 28 years.
The Random Selection Draw phase for 2026 World Cup tickets will run until January 13 at 1100 ET (1700 CET).
FIFA emphasized that applying early does not increase chances of securing tickets. Fans can select specific matches, ticket categories, and quantities, within household limits. Successful applications will be automatically charged, ensuring a smooth allocation process.
With the first day already receiving five million requests, the 2026 World Cup tickets phase demonstrates overwhelming global interest. Fans worldwide are eager to experience the historic 48-team tournament and witness some of the most exciting matchups in football history.
The Random Selection Draw offers a fair opportunity for fans to secure seats, despite concerns over rising ticket costs. FIFA continues to stress transparency and accessibility for football supporters ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
