Twenty-one former international cricket captains have renewed an appeal to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over Imran Khan.
They have asked the government to ensure he receives medical care in line with the Supreme Court’s directions.
The former cricketers raised concerns about the handling of the jailed PTI founder’s recent medical assessment. Their appeal follows a Supreme Court order issued on August 18.
According to the provided information, the court ordered Khan’s transfer from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital. The purpose was to allow him to undergo medical examination and treatment.
However, Khan was instead taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, known as PIMS. Doctors from Shifa International Hospital were also present during the examination.
Medical Team Examines Imran Khan
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said a team of medical specialists examined Imran Khan at PIMS. The team reportedly included an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician.
According to Tarar, the doctors declared Khan medically fit following the examination. However, the former cricket captains raised concerns about how the assessment was conducted.
In their letter to the prime minister, they said Khan remained at the hospital for only a few hours. He was subsequently returned to Adiala Jail.
The former captains called for a court-directed medical board to complete a detailed assessment. They said the process should include Khan’s personal doctors and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan.
Former Captains Call for Independent Medical Examination
The signatories also requested an independent medical examination for the former prime minister.
They particularly highlighted reports concerning vision loss in Khan’s right eye. They urged the government to implement any treatment recommended by the medical board without delay.
The former captains also called for uninterrupted weekly meetings between Khan and his family. Their letter seeks government action to ensure the medical process follows the directions given by the court.
International Cricket Figures Sign Appeal
Several prominent former international cricket captains are among the 21 signatories. They include Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Allan Border, Sunil Gavaskar and David Gower.
Clive Lloyd, Arjuna Ranatunga, Steve Waugh and John Wright are also listed among the signatories. The appeal brings together prominent figures from several generations of international cricket.
Imran Khan himself captained Pakistan and led the national team to the 1992 Cricket World Cup title. The latest letter focuses specifically on his medical assessment, treatment and access to family.
