Former Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad became emotional during a live television show while discussing his exclusion from the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Speaking on a private channel, Shehzad admitted he felt upset watching his former teammates take the field while he remained unpicked. “I feel very sad. I still want to play,” he said.
The cricketer reflected on his career, saying he often questions the reasons behind his exclusion. “After every auction, the days are particularly difficult for me,” Ahmed Shehzad shared.
Having devoted 18 years to cricket, missing the PSL is especially painful. “PSL started in front of my eyes. I have given 18 years to cricket, and suddenly everything feels gone. It hurts a lot. I miss it, and sometimes I cry,” he said.
Shehzad also expressed disappointment that no board officials contacted him for clarification. “Why doesn’t someone come and talk to me? Let’s sort it out,” he said.
He revealed confusion among franchise officials regarding his status. “New teams are being added to the PSL. One team even thought I was banned or had retired from cricket. There is no clarity about me,” explained Ahmed Shehzad.
Becoming visibly emotional, Shehzad shared the most painful part was his nine-year-old son’s wish to see him play. “This time, what hurts most is that my nine-year-old son wanted me to play,” he said, with tears in his eyes.
The host offered comfort, and fellow guest Mohammad Amir consoled him. Shehzad described his son’s words: “My son sleeps next to me and says, ‘Baba, I remember you used to play. But now I will remember you better.’ That is what makes me emotional,” he added.
Fans of Ahmed Shehzad expressed support on social media, empathizing with his feelings and hoping he gets an opportunity in future PSL editions. The cricketer’s heartfelt remarks highlight the emotional challenges athletes face when sidelined despite long careers.
Shehzad’s situation also raises questions about communication and transparency between cricket boards and players regarding PSL selections. Many expect the authorities to address the confusion surrounding his participation.
