India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following an on-field incident during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final. The incident occurred during India’s match against New Zealand, which ended with India lifting the trophy.
According to ICC officials, Arshdeep Singh breached the ICC Code of Conduct after throwing the ball at New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell during the match. The action was considered inappropriate and potentially dangerous.
The moment took place in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings while chasing India’s target. Daryl Mitchell played the ball back toward the bowler. Arshdeep Singh quickly picked up the ball and threw it directly toward Mitchell.
The ball struck Mitchell on the pads. The New Zealand batter appeared angry and immediately walked toward the Indian bowler. Match officials had to step in to prevent the situation from escalating further.
During the tense moment, India captain Suryakumar Yadav approached Mitchell and apologized on behalf of the team. The umpire also intervened to calm the players and ensure the game continued without further disruption.
Later in the over, Arshdeep Singh also apologized to Mitchell for his actions. Reports say he repeated the apology again after the match ended.
Following a review of the incident, the ICC confirmed that Arshdeep Singh violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The rule prohibits throwing a ball or any cricket equipment at a player in a dangerous or inappropriate manner.
As a result, the ICC imposed a fine equal to 15 percent of Arshdeep Singh’s match fee. The player accepted the sanction and admitted the offence, which meant no formal hearing was required.
Despite the controversy, India delivered a strong performance in the final. The team defeated New Zealand by a margin of 96 runs.
The victory marked a historic achievement for the Indian side. With this win, India became the first team to claim the men’s T20 World Cup title three times.
