LAHORE – Pakistan’s star cricketer Babar Azam has once again made history by achieving a remarkable milestone in T20 International cricket. During the second T20 match against South Africa at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, he broke Rohit Sharma’s long-standing world record for the most runs in T20Is.
Before the match, India’s former captain Rohit Sharma held the record with 4,231 runs in 159 T20 Internationals. Babar Azam needed only 9 runs to surpass the record, and he achieved the feat with ease during his innings against South Africa. With this accomplishment, Babar Azam officially became the highest run-scorer in T20 International history.
The achievement marks another shining moment in Babar’s illustrious career. Known for his consistency and elegant stroke play, he has been a key figure in Pakistan’s batting lineup for years. His latest record has further solidified his position among the greatest batters in modern cricket.
Interestingly, Babar was dropped from the T20 squad following Pakistan’s series against South Africa last December. However, after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the Asia Cup 2025, selectors decided to recall him for the home series against the Proteas — a decision that proved to be rewarding.
Cricket fans across Pakistan and around the world have praised his remarkable comeback. Social media was flooded with congratulatory messages celebrating the record-breaking performance.
